Seminar: "Boundary Conditions and the q-state Potts Model on Random Planar Maps" by Mr. Aravinth Kulanthaivelu

Date

Tuesday, February 25, 2020 - 14:00 to 15:00

Location

D014, Lab1

Description

Speaker:  Mr. Aravinth Kulanthaivelu is in his last year as a Ph.D. student at University of Oxford.

Abstract:  In this talk, I will discuss boundary conditions in 2D quantum gravity coupled to matter. We will first review the use of matrix models as a tool for studying Euclidean quantum gravity endowed with a lattice spin system. Following this, we will focus on the q-state Potts model, extending a recent analysis of the model to determine the set of consistent boundary states for allowed values of q.  Finally, we will explore Kramers-Wannier duality on the random lattice, and explain the construction of boundary conditions for the dual 3-state Potts model.
