Thinking about taking your science to new heights?
Come and join “OIST Science Challenge” this spring to experience research at the cutting edge. Interact with science leaders from Japan and around the world. In this workshop, you will:
- experience OIST student life
- attend lectures by prestigious scientists
- network with OIST students and researchers
- learn skills essential for graduate school admission such as how to do well in English interviews, etc.
- interact with science leaders from Japan and around the world
1. Eligibility
- Undergraduate, College of Technology (Advanced Courses), Master’s students in science or engineering major.
- Able to take part in the OIST Science Challenge 2015 Workshop from March 8th – 14th 2015 if selected.

3. Required Documentation

- Statement of the reasons why you wish to apply for OIST Science Challenge 2015 Workshop. (In PDF format, Maximum of 400 words in English)
- Please pick one research unit of your choice. We need this information to arrange activities in the workshop.

5. Selection Criteria & Announcement
Application materials will be carefully reviewed in following criteria.
- Persuasiveness
- Creativity
- Originality
- Passion and curiosity for Science
From submitted applications, 20 to 30 candidates will be selected after review. They will be invited to OIST Science Challenge 2015. The acceptance will be announced on this website around the end of February.
6. The Workshop
OIST Science Challenge 2015 will be providing participants with a unique opportunity to extend their scientific education and experience research. We also offer valuable information to help them prepare for a doctoral program. You will learn a great deal from seminars by the faculty, postdocs and Ph.D students on research conducted at OIST, skills needed to survive a doctoral program and tips to enjoy your Ph.D life. At the end of the workshop, participants will be asked to improve their submitted Power Point presentation "Where will science lead me in the future?" in light of what you have learned in the workshop. After improvements have been made, participants will present their ideas to the OIST community.
OIST Science Challenge 2015 will be held in OIST main campus in Okinawa, Japan for seven days from Mar 8th to 14th 2015. A single round trip air ticket, meals and lodging during the workshop will be provided by OIST.
