Title: Duality-symmetric formulation of electrodynamics and (chiral) p-form generalizations

Abstract:

We demonstrate a new "democratic" Lagrangian for free massless p-form fields with manifest duality and Poincaré symmetry in d-dimensional Minkowski space, where p-form and its (d-p-2)-form dual appear on equal footing. The formalism also provides a manifestly Poincaré invariant action for chiral (even) p-forms in d=2p+2 dimensional Minkowski space. We show the advantage of this formulation by constructing the "democratic" version of arbitrary non-linear electrodynamics. In this construction, duality symmetry is imposed in a particularly simple manner.
