Title: "Decoherence and einselection in equilibrium in an adapted Caldeira Leggett model"

Abstract:
I present an adapted Caldeira Leggett (ACL) model which allows the exploration of truly unitary evolution (vs that described by irreversible master equations).  This enables, among other things, the study of equilibrium conditions. I use the ACL model to explore the nature of decoherence and einselection in equilibrium states.  The talk will start with an introduction of the toy model and an illustration of decoherence and einselection, and how they are relevant for the emergence of classicality (no prior familiarity with these concepts will be assumed). I relate the results of these calculations to cosmological questions that tie in deeply with the arrow of time, and which are significant motivations for this work. These studies also point to some some possibly new phenomena which could be observable in the laboratory.
