Workshop Working on Ocean Policy Science in Japan: Through lenses of community and gender

Professor Kazumi will share her experience with fisheries and policy. She will also talk about her experience as a Japanese female professor and how to promote diversity in academia in Japan.

 

The United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (UNDOS) started in 2021. In the UNDOS, co-design, co-production, and co-delivery of ocean science is promoted. In Japan, ocean science through collaboration between researchers and fishermen has been in practice since before the call of the UNDOS. In this talk, one of the collaborative initiatives between ocean scientists and fishermen in Shimokita, facing Tsugaru Strait in Aomori will be presented. Keys for the collaborative work and challenges in Japan as an ocean policy scientist will be shared. Furthermore, some thoughts as a female researcher in ocean science in Japan will be also discussed.
