Title: "An Introduction and Overview of the World’s First Large-Scale Cephalopod Exhibition"

Abstract:
Cephalopods (Octopus, cuttlefish, nautilus, and squid) have long fascinated humans due to their unique abilities and their bizarre, alien-like appearance.  This group of animals is arguably the most intelligent and perhaps charismatic invertebrates on the planet.  In recent years cephalopods have gained a great deal of popular interest both in aquariums and research laboratories.  This makes it increasingly important to better understand this group of animals and promote their longevity and/or culture in aquaria over time.  At this presentation I will provide a virtual introduction to the first large-scale cephalopod exhibition in the world at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  An overview of cephalopod display and culture/rearing techniques will be reviewed.  Additionally, we will discuss the vast and diverse cephalopod species collection at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
