OIST Football Club is Tournament Champion

The OIST Football Club (OIST FC) recently won the Camp Courtney 6v6 Soccer Tournament, held on May 20-21 at Camp Courtney. Competing against 17 other local and US military teams, OIST FC won 5 consecutive games without conceding a single goal to win the tournament.

“I remember when Kristoffer and I first joined OIST, we often had to practice at Seaside House pitch because we never had enough players. The group slowly grew since then, and we now have over 50+ regular and irregular members. But despite years of challenging for the title, we had never managed to clinch it,” said Yuuki Guzman from Graduate School, and one of the OIST FC members. “However, this time, for the first time in the club's history, we emerged as the undefeated champions.”

OIST FC boasts a diverse lineup that is made up of students, postdocs, staff, and faculty members. For this tournament, the team selected twelve players from various nationalities, including Japan, the United States, Chile, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Sweden.

“It’s a great feeling to win against teams that are professionally fit and built, as they are mostly military players. We’d love to challenge again and we are always looking for more players to join,” adds Kristoffer Karlsson, another member of OIST FC since 2015.
