Organic/polymeric ionic-electronic mixed conductors (OIEMCs) are a class of materials that exhibit both ionic and electronic conductivity. The structure of OIEMCs typically involves a three-dimensional network of the organic polymer, which provides mechanical stability and acts as an electronic conductor, while embedded within this polymer matrix are the inorganic ions or molecules, which contribute to the ionic conductivity of the material. In this seminar, I will present the structure and properties of various OMIEC and polymeric hydrogel materials and their applications to 3D bioelectronic interfaces, reconfigurable neuromorphic circuits, and 3D neuronal cell cultures.       
Myung-Han Yoon received his B.S. (1999) in Chemistry and M.S. (2001) in Physical Chemistry at Seoul National University, South Korea. He studied on “Organic Semiconductors and Dielectrics Based Thin Films Transistors” for his Ph.D. (2006) in Materials Chemistry with the guidance of Professor Tobin J. Marks at Northwestern University in the United States of America. In 2006, he moved to Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University as a postdoctoral fellow and focused on “Development of Neuronal Electronic/Microfluidic Interface Arrays”. He joined School of Materials Science and Engineering, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) as a junior faculty member in 2010, and was promoted to an Associate Professor in 2015 and a Professor in 2018. He published more than 110 SCI journal papers (SCOPUS; h-index 43, total citation >12000) and received Excellent Research Award from GIST (2022), Excellent Research Award from Minister of Science and ICT (South Korea; 2018), Excellent Research Award from Korean Polymer Society (2018) and Excellent Research Award from Korean Chemical Society (2018). His research interest covers “Development of Functional Materials Based on Conjugated Polymers, Metal Oxides, Fibrillar Hydrogels, and Nanoparticles/2D- structures for Biomedical/Bioelectrical Interfaces, Neuromorphic Electronics, Hydrogen Generation, and Environmental Purification”.
