Description

Abstract:

As part of the opening activities of OIST Center for Quantum Technologies, this talk will discuss how developments in quantum information sciences are influencing cryptographic research and real-world deployment. A particular focus will be on the designs and security of post-quantum cryptographic algorithms -- these are constructions which are expected to remain secure with the (eventual) advent of quantum computers. This is an area of much activity with the ongoing NIST standardisation process to select post-quantum encryption and signature schemes.

This is an accessible talk which aims to provide an overview of this area and recent developments. It may be of particular interest to PhD students and early-career researchers.

Bio:

Carlos is a professor (adjunct) at OIST, where he leads the Applied Cryptography Unit. He is also the director of Simula UiB, a research centre in cryptography and information theory, in Bergen, Norway, where he is based. Before joining OIST and Simula early this year, Carlos spent almost 18 years in the Information Security Group at Royal Holloway University of London. His research interests include the algebraic cryptanalysis of symmetric and asymmetric key algorithms, design and analysis of primitives for privacy-preserving cryptographic mechanisms, as well as the design and analysis of quantum-safe cryptographic constructions.
