Title: Twisting a fluid: Accelerating the breakup of liquid bridges for dispensing applications

Abstract:

Dispensing of rheologically complex fluids is pervasive in myriad of important applications such as electronic packaging, 3D printing, food engineering and feeding our cats. Viscoelastic nature of complex fluids often leads to dispensing irregularities like slow liquid bridge break up, stringiness and generation of satellite droplets. With simple flow visualizations and dimensional analysis (a trick to simplify complicated problems), we show how twisting a viscoelastic liquid bridge can alleviate all the above-mentioned dispensing issues.
