Title: Genome-guided chemistry in marine organisms
Abstract:
Dinoflagellates are important unicellular eukaryotes found in both marine and freshwater environments and play crucial role in reef-building corals while others sometimes cause toxic blooms. They are also rich sources of unique bioactive secondary metabolites of polyketide origin. Much is known regarding the biosynthesis of polyketides from terrestrial or freshwater organisms and it is only in the recent years that polyketides of dinoflagellates are being investigated. In this talk, I will introduce biosynthetic machineries from dinoflagellates and relate to their evolutionary significance and innovation.
Refreshments will be served afterwards. We hope to see you there!
