Speaker: Alex Tang, Postdoctoral Researcher, Neuronal Rhythms in Movement Unit (Marylka Yoe Uusisaari Unit)

Title: Inferior olivary neurons - far from inferior in function

Adstract: 

Movement is an essential behavior that allows us to interact and navigate through the external environment. Whether the desired movement is "simple" or "complex" in nature, both require precise timing and co-ordination of neural activity. The overarching theme of our unit is to investigate the olivo-cerebellar system (OCS) which is believed to be responsible for motor timing within the brain. During this seminar I will give a brief overview of the different techniques that our unit uses to investigate the complex properties of the OCS and its role in movement. In particular, i will discuss my own research which investigates how oscillations in the electrical activity of neurons within the OCS modulates their output to the rest of the network.
