Both are students in the sciences, Afshan at OIST in Okinawa and Nina at Columbia University in New York City. Afshan grew up in a town in Pakistan where women’s educational opportunities were severely limited and Nina grew up in Okinawa where far fewer students continue on to higher education than in other parts of Japan. Both have overcome these challenges to becomes successful science students and next generation science leaders.

Moderated by Dr. Sheila A. Smith, Senior Fellow in Japan Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, this webinar will highlight the stories of these two amazing women
