Technician/Internship Position in Biophysics

The Biological Physics Theory Unit at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University is seeking to fill a technician/internship position to assist with high-resolution video imaging experiments of natural behavior. Current experimental systems include collective behavior in honeybees (infrared illumination and high-throughput imaging from a con- trolled observation hive) and social behavior in shoaling zebrafish (a new Human Frontiers Science Program funded research direction). The successful candidate will assist in a variety of directions including 1) optimizing experimental conditions and hardware such as camera, lighting and imaging environments 2) constructing software interfaces for capturing camera image streams and 3) assisting in the development of image analysis and behavioral models. A background in a quantitative discipline such as physics or engineering and both experimental and software skills (for example with LabVIEW) are required. OIST has excellent engineering support and fabrication facilities.

Compensation and the duration of the position are negotiable. In particular, we welcome applications from candidates with a bachelor or masters degree seeking practical experience in an exciting research environment. Interested candidates should send a Curriculum Vitae along with the contact information for 3 references to greg.stephens@oist.jp. Questions can be sent to the same address
