Pierce (Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University) and Dr. Nanfang Yu (Dept of Applied Physics and Applied Math, Columbia University) will consider the temperature of butterfly wings from a few different angles. They will also present several technologies inspired by these studies. Moderated by Prof. Evan Economo, Biodiversity and Biocomplexity Unit.

Dr. Suzana Camargo at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, will give an overview of the current state of knowledge on the relationship between extreme weather and climate events and anthropogenic climate change. She will present a general overview on various types of extreme events, but provide special attention to hurricanes and typhoons.
