Kim "Avrama" Blackwell received a M.S. in Systems Engineering, a PhD in Bioengineering and a V.M.D. in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. Her professional career began at the not-for-profit Environmental Research Institute of Michigan, where she began developing artificial neural networks for pattern recognition. In 1996 Dr. Blackwell moved to the Krasnow Institute of Advanced Study at George Mason University as associate professor, and has been a professor since 2008, initially in the Molecular Neuroscience department and currently in the Bioengineering department.

The library is hosting Mendeley Seminar on January 10, 2016 with training provided by an expert from Elsevier. There are two sessions: English and Japanese
