Title: Detailed model of the cerebellar molecular layer

Abstract:

Constructing a realistic model of a region of the brain involves a number of steps: building biophysical cell and synapse models, determining spatial distribution of cells, and determining rules of synaptic connectivity. In this talk I will outline my approach to constructing a simulation of the cerebellar molecular layer, a structure comprising a recurrent inhibitory network. I will describe my ‘data driven’ approach, utilising microscopy data to determine the 3d co-ordinates of cell bodies and dendritic fields. I will focus in particular on gap junctions, and describe how I validated my model against electrophysiological data.

Refreshments will be served afterwards. We hope to see you there!
