Date

Tuesday, August 25, 2020 - 15:00 to 17:00

Location

Zoom / D014, Lab 1

Description

We resumed the traditional IAS Users Meeting and Seminar, by following the "New Lifestyle” at OIST.

You can join the Users Meeting or/and Seminar either via Zoom or on-site, but please note that we need to keep the room occupancy rate less than 50% of the maximum capacity.

Title: Boosting proteomics acquisition and data analysis methodology for native peptides identification in Human Serum

Speaker: Alejandro VILLAR-BRIONES, M Sc. (Research Support Specialist, Instrumental Analysis Section, OIST)

Summary:

State-of-the-art proteomics done with mass spectrometers involve measuring hundreds of thousands of peptides precursors and their fragments with <5 ppm mass accuracy. Cutting edge technology allows sequencing at speeds of tens of peptides per second with attomolar sensitivity. However, only less than 30% of collected data ends having a reliable identification and even less proper quantification. In this seminar, I will present three different approaches to increase the number of peptide identifications that I developed during my stay at Max Planck Institute (MPI) of Biochemistry. Each approach focus in a different stage of the proteomics pipeline, covering liquid chromatography, instrument method and data analysis. All combined were applied to the identification of novel native peptides in Human Serum, aiming to identify possible clinical biomarkers of interest.
