This session will be in Japanese. The program will start off with OIST general introduction, PhD & Research Internship admission process, financial support and student life followed by the panel discussion by 2 OIST PhD students.
Speakers
Yoshiki Ochiai (OIST PhD student, Year of 2019)
Yoshiki was born and grew up in Osaka, Japan. He studied in life science at Soka University as an undergraduate student. He got a master degree in Saitama University as well as worked in RIKEN Center for Sustainable Resource Center (CSRS). He joined in Protein Engineering and Evolution Unit (PI: Assistant Professor Paola Laurino) from May 2020 and have engaged in research about enzyme engineering by directed evolution. Aside to research on OIST, he often spends his days off searching for Okinawan rare wildlife in the beautiful nature. He would like to provide you with first-hand information about admissions and research life at OIST as a current PhD student.
Tatsuki Hamamoto (OIST PhD student, Year of 2020)
Tatsuki was born and grew up in Okinawa, Japan. He received his B.S. degree from the School of Engineering Science, Osaka University, and his M.S. degree from the Graduate School of Frontier BioSciences, Osaka University. He spent six years dealing with E. coli and neurons in Osaka. He met ‘quantum mechanics’ during the GAP program at OIST. The fact that, unlike living cells, spins do not die and can be experimented on as much as desired changed his research field. He decided to start his research in experimental quantum physics and joined the Quantum Information Physics Experimental Unit (PI: Associate Professor Hiroki Takahashi). “You can do anything as much as you want at OIST. Also, as an Okinawan, I find the ocean in front of OIST to be calm and beautiful.”
