This session will be done in Japanese only. The program is consisted of OIST general introduction, PhD & Research Internship admission process, financial support and student life followed by the panel discussion by 2 OIST PhD students. One of them has joined OIST Research Internship Program before becoming OIST PhD student so this session will be very exciting for those who are interested in Research Internship Program as well as PhD program.

Speakers

Shuhei Hara (OIST PhD Student, Year of 2020)

Shuhei was born and raised in Nagasaki, Japan. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Waseda University, having the chance to complete his bachelor’s project with Neural Computation Unit at OIST as a research intern. For the project, he has explored the relationship between psychiatric diseases and less exploratory actions by computational methods. As he is currently in his first year at OIST, he is going through lab rotation in three different units (Biological Complexity, Neural Computation, Neuronal Rhythms in Movement Unit). “In my spare time, I enjoy playing basketball, running, and snorkeling. I would be excited to answer questions about OIST and meet people who are interested in OIST!”

Masato Hirota (OIST PhD Student, Year of 2019)

Masato was born and raised in Fukushima, Japan. He studied gut microbiota’s role in autoimmune disorders at Keio University and received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. He joined Immune signal Unit in May 2020 and has been working on a project related to immunosenescence under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Hiroki Ishikawa. He spends his spare time fishing and kayaking as a hobby at the side of Tancha beach.
