Young and Laplace laid down the theoretical foundations of interfacial science nearly two centuries ago, with fundamental experiments by early pioneers Pockels and Lord Rayleigh; later work by industrial physicists Langmuir and Blodgett established quantitative techniques which put equilibrium experiments on an equal footing with theory. Today, while our understanding of the equilibrium thermodynamics of interfaces and thin films exhibits excellent agreement between experiment and theory, non-equilibrium interfacial phenomena have not enjoyed the same success. In particular, the role of interfaces or boundaries in nucleating instabilities and new phases remains poorly understood, and novel capillary phenomena are continually being reported. The last two decades have witnessed a renaissance in efforts to understand dynamics at interfaces. This is partially in response to interest in particle self-assembly at the microscopic and mesoscopic scales, but also  due to the abundance of biological systems that exploit interfaces to overcome evolutionary and environmental constraints. This symposium-style workshop aims to bring together practitioners, students and experts in interfacial dynamics to share their latest discoveries, deliberate upon the current status and debate the future trends of this field.

OIST will handle the logistics of accommodation, travel, and meals for all workshop participants. All local costs (housing, meals) will be fully supported by the workshop, and travel funds can be requested during the application process.
