Date: June 19 Friday
Time: 15:00 – 16:00
Venue: B503, Lab1 Level B.

Dr. Peach emphasises with pragmatic approach, “Think about the audience.” For example, think if you would pay for your research proposal, if you were a funding agency.  A cynic might say they are “happy” to receive “bad” research proposal, because they do not have to pay. Such proposals can be dismissed out of hand and represent no drain on resources.  Dr. Peach alternatively says, “Make the recipients suffer by submitting your “good” proposal, so that they cannot refuse to pay.  Your proposal must be “too good to ignore.”

OK then, what is the difference between a “bad” and a “good” research proposal?

In this salon, Dr. Peach, who is the author of “Presenting Science: A practical guide to giving a good talk,” will speak with you about the importance of delivering your research “clearly and effectively” to the outside world, from the critical perspective of an audience (e.g. funding agency), not from a researcher’s perspective.

This is NOT a seminar, but a “salon.”
Dr. Peach will speak with you informally, as an experienced mentor, not as the Dean of faculty affairs.
So please be prepared to share your bottom line feelings with a positive attitude.

We, in the Grants and Research Collaborations Section, hope that this series of Salons will jump-start your thinking about research proposal presentations – the key to a well-funded research career.
