Abstract. After reviewing the main aspects of the functional formulation of quantum field theory and their relation to n-point correlators, we will introduce the concept of renormalization. This tool can be understood under different points of view: historically was introduced to cure pathological divergences introduced by quantum (statistical) fluctuations, today is understood in terms of physics of scales and effective field theories. The fixed point structure of a renormalization flow allow us to under which conditions a certain theory becomes predictive and well defined.
