Description

The Workshop and International Coastal Cleanup taking place from October 24 to 26, have the aim to build up the capacity needed for the effective management of marine litter in the NOWPAP region, to promote International Coastal Cleanup in the region and to enhance public awareness of the marine litter issues.

Having NOWPAP member states, partners, NGOs and citizens share relevant experience on marine litter, the event also hopes to strengthen cooperation in dealing with marine litter between government agencies and non-government organizations in the region and beyond.

The Beach Cleanup on October 26 2013 will take place on Kuraha Beach in Onna Village.

Brief background on NOWPAP:
The Northwest Pacific Action Plan (NOWPAP) was adopted in 1994 by the four Member States, namely the People’s Republic of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation as a part of the UNEP Regional Seas Program.  For details please refer to the NOWPAP official website.
