Title:Updating internal models for reward-based sequential choice decisions in the rat cingulate-motor circuits

Abstract:

How decision algorithms are implemented in the brain has been a focus of debate for decades. In this seminar I present an experimental evidence regarding how cortical circuits connecting anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and secondary motor cortex (M2) in rats play a role in reward-based sequential decision making. The data suggests that the ACC-M2 connections are a part of brain circuits that, based on the outcome feedback information, update the internal models of how the environment works and use them for planning subsequent choice actions. I will discuss how the reinforcement learning framework may help further dissecting the decision algorithms that these prefrontal cortical circuits implement.
