Title
Control of Wall Turbulence and associated Transport Processes
Abstract
Wall turbulence is one of the most fundamental flow configurations, where the essential features and complexity of turbulence are present despite its simple geometry. In this talk, we introduce optimal control problem of wall turbulence for skin friction drag and also associated heat transfer. It will be shown that the optimal control successfully achieves relaminarization and dissimilar heat transfer enhancement at low Reynolds numbers. We also demonstrate that the flow can be relaminarized even with a strong low-wavenumber constraint to the control input, so that the length-scale of the control input is kept larger than the typical length-scale of near-wall turbulence. Finally, if time allows, we will also introduce our recent attempt to apply reinforcement learning to wall turbulence, and discuss its potential and future issues.
