Title
Anomalies in (2+1)D Symmetry-Enriched Topological Phases
Abstract
In (2+1)D phases of matter, anyons can exist and can carry fractional quantum numbers under a global symmetry. Such a phase is called a symmetry-enriched topological phase (SET); some SETs cannot exist in (2+1)D and must instead exist on the surface of a higher-dimensional system, that is, they have a ‘t Hooft anomaly. We show by explicit construction that every (2+1)D bosonic and fermionic SET can exist on the surface of some (3+1)D symmetry-protected topological phase and explain how to use our construction to directly calculate the ‘t Hooft anomaly of the SET.
