Description

Hippobellum in health and disease: cerebellar influence on the hippocampus

Prof. Esther Krook-Magnuson, Department of Neuroscience, University of Minnesota

There is an increasing appreciation of the cerebellum beyond its roles in motor functions.  This talk will examine the ability of the cerebellum to inhibit hippocampal seizures, and the pathways by which this may happen.  The ability of the cerebellum to impact hippocampal function, however, is not limited to temporal lobe epilepsy.  We will further discuss the impact optogenetic manipulation of the cerebellum can have on hippocampal function in healthy physiology, including the grounding of place cells and the processing of objects in space.
