Description

From March 19th to 21st, 2024, the Okinawa Sustainable City Summit will bring together innovators, technologists, policymakers, investors, and architects to envision and co-create the sustainable cities and communities of tomorrow. Organized by Japan's PDIE Group in partnership with the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), the summit aims to facilitate the convergence of innovative ideas. It is designed to inspire collaborative solutions that are actionable for creating self-sufficient, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities, both large and small.

Participants will dive deep into topics ranging from Energy Transition, Decarbonization, Sustainable Mobility, Built Environment, Well-being, and Blue Economy for Islands and Island Nations. Hosted on the beautiful island of Okinawa, this year marks the first in-person edition of the summit, following the resounding success of Volume 1 in 2022.

This year, the summit will feature talks by Alan Dean Foster, Science Fiction Author; Dr. Karin Markides, President & CEO of OIST; Kyoko Nishi, Deputy Director General for Digital Garden City Initiative from the Cabinet Office of Japan; Lucas Evan, Founder of E3 Agriculture; Masanori Kobayashi, Senior Research Fellow from Ocean Policy Research Institute of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation; Noriko Suzuki, Thought leader from IBM’s Institute for Business Value; Stephan Nicoleau, Venture Capitalist from FullCycle for climate-critical infrastructure technology; Takahiro Kurata, CEO and Founder of Grid Parity for Sustainable Society, and Tom Bosschaert, Visionary and Founder of Orchid City, along with global startup founders and others.

Insightful workshops and engaging sessions will offer many opportunities for interaction and idea exchange with other in-person participants. The goal is to foster a collaborative community committed to co-creating a shared future for all.
