Title: Classical spinning particles for black hole physics
Abstract:
I will discuss an EFT for a classical spinning compact object and explain its relevance to gravitational wave physics. I will pay special attention to the counting of degrees of freedom and managing of gauge symmetries in the worldline theory. I will present recent results on matching between the worldline EFT and higher-spin QFT amplitudes (which are proposed to match Kerr observables in the classical limit). Generally this matching requires doing loop computations, but I will explain how some sectors can remain protected even when loop effects are taken into account.
