[QI]2
Quintessential Introduction to Quantum Information
The Quantum Systems Unit is proud to announce the first Quintessential Introduction to Quantum Information, a two day intensive course with a great acronym introducing PhD students to fundamental and important ideas of quantum information theory.
The two day course will consist of a variety of elements, including lectures about the foundations, a currently already commercial application in cryptography, tutorials for basic stuff and specific examples, an introduction to the use of Mathematica (for beginners), guided tutorials, do-it-yourself tutorials and coffee breaks. It is designed for people who like to focus completely on one subject for a short time, learn stuff and have a lot of Aha!-moments. And all of this purely for the love of knowledge and the desire to expand ones horizon. You will not even be burdened with credit from the graduate school.
Target demographics
The lectures and tutorials have been be designed for any graduate student with some affinity for physics and mathematics, but any researcher in OIST wishing to expand their knowledge is very welcome to register. If too many people are interested in the event, priority will be given to the students and you can rest assured that we will be repeating the event at a later date.
Everyone attending will be expected to bring a laptop running Mathematica. The software (version 8 or 9) can be downloaded from the IT website (we can help).
Dates, Location & Costs
【QI】2 will take place over two full days on April 29 and 30, 2013 on the OIST main campus (C600, Lab 2). And it is completely free! Even though the whole event is run by some of the most highly qualified experts you can find in Tancha!
But you are required to invest your time, your energy, your enthusiasm, your creativity and any spare brain capacity you have available. These two days are not going to be a walk in the park (or on the beach).
