This session will be done in English only. The program will start off with OIST general introduction, PhD & Research Internship admission process, financial support and student life followed by the panel discussion by 2 OIST PhD students. One of them has joined OIST Research Internship Program before becoming OIST PhD student so this session will be very exciting for those who are interested in Research Internship Program as well as PhD program.
Speakers
Bozena Silic (OIST PhD Student, Year of 2018)
Bozena is from Croatia, where she completed her Master's in Rehabilitation and Special Education. Before coming to OIST, she was working with children with disabilities. Her first OIST experience was a research internship at the Human Developmental Neurobiology Unit. Two years later (2018), she came back to OIST as a PhD student in the Neurobiology Research Unit and the Human Developmental Neurobiology Unit. Her research interest is the motivated behavior of an animal model with ADHD-like symptoms. In her free time, she likes spending her time with friends, running, or sometimes just do nothing.
Muhammad Sirajul Hasan (OIST PhD Student, Year of 2018)
Hasan is from India where he did his Bachelor's and Master's degree in physics. Before coming to OIST, he was working as an intern in New Delhi on one of his favorite topics - quantum optomechanics. At OIST, he joined the Quantum Systems Unit motivated by his interest in understanding cold atoms and works on supersolid Bose-Einstein condensates. He had never lived outside of India before coming to Japan and Okinawa is the first overseas city to live for a long term, and he indeed enjoys his life in Okinawa. When he is not in the lab working, he spends time playing soccer, running, cycling, or cooking for his friends.
