Summary:

Ultrapure water is perhaps the most used chemical in research laboratories. Its free availability is essential for laboratory works but its quality is often taken for granted and the impact it has on the quality of analytical work is not recognised.

In this presentation, we outline the water quality required for specific application types. We provide information about common issues arising from the use of ‘bad’ ultrapure water for research and analysis application. Some of OIST ultrapure water systems and commercially available bottled ultrapure water are compared for LC/MS applications. The results show that some of ultrapure water systems aren’t suitable for critical laboratory works.
