AS x OIST Joint Symposium 2019

PURPOSE 

OIST strives to become a world-leading research university with excellent research and international graduate education by 2030. Academia Sinica (AS) in Taiwan has been one of the most prominent research institutes in the Chinese-speaking world that is committed to excellence and integrity in scholarship and curiosity-driven scientific research. Through co-creating the biennial AS-OIST Joint Symposium, we will connect faculty and researchers from both institutes in overlapping interdisciplinary domains with the aim to strengthen academic programs and foster collaborative projects towards solving highly original research problems of mutual interests.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION 

The AS-OIST Joint Symposium is a 2-day forum. Day 1 begins with two keynote speeches followed by 8-12 short 7 min presentations (plus 3 min Q&A) by early-career scientists and a poster session in the evening. During breaks and transitions, lab tours and dinner are included to promote inter- and intra-group interactions among all participants. Day 2 focuses on faculty participants with lunch in small groups between morning and afternoon sessions. Invited faculty members will deliver a 25 min presentation about their central research theme, core competencies, and the breakthroughs they seek which they will welcome collaborations.
