I am a postdoctoral fellow working in the laboratory of Daniel Geschwind at UCLA. I am interested in the neurodevelopmental pathways that lead to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). My research focuses on determining the developmental role of a novel ASD candidate gene through molecular, cellular, and behavioral studies. Outside of the lab, I am an avid runner and singer. I am looking forward to meeting all of you at MNA2014.

My research objective is to understand the cellular and molecular events that govern motor learning acquisition. One line of work focuses on investigating neuronal structural plasticity during development: a maturation period the organism refines its motor control. Another line of investigation concerns changes, at the cellular level, in response to learned motor tasks.

Born and raised in Washington D.C. I'm at the beginning of a lifelong career in neuroscientific research and couldn't be more excited. As Santiago Ramon y Cajal so eloquently said in his memoir: "Like the entomologist in search of colorful butterflies, my attention has chased in the gardens of the grey matter cells with delicate and elegant shapes, the mysterious butterflies of the soul, whose beating of wings may one day reveal to us the secrets of the mind."

I am currently a 4th year graduate student in the laboratory of Dr. Paul E.M. Phillips at the University of Washington in Seattle.  I am studying alterations in drug-cue elicited phasic dopamine release over the course of drug history in rats self-administering cocaine.  Ultimately I hope to gain some insight into the mechanisms by which drug-associated cues are able to produce drug craving and promote relapse.  In my free time I enjoy hiking, backpacking, and sampling all of the wonderful microbrews that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
I am really looking forward to meeting my fellow course participants!!

I am very excited for this unique opportunity to meet neuroscientists from all over the globe and work together on challenging assignments. My interests are quite broad; I earned my MSc-degree working on a rare RASopathy called Costello syndrome in the lab of professor Ype Elgersma. For my PhD I stayed in this lab but switched to another subject; Autism Spectrum Disorders. By means of family-based genetics we try to discover and functionally study novel genetic variation in ASD.

Born and raised in Brazil, I moved to the UK for a gap year after finishing school and have been living here almost ever since. Following a spell in Italy and a few years in the working world, travelling and learning foreign languages, I decided it was time to return to the academic world and went to the University of York where I gained a distinction in Theoretical Linguistics in 2010. I then moved to Cambridge for an MPhil at King's College, supported by an Isaac Newton Trust award, where I became progressively more interested in the brain and cognitive sciences more generally. My work, supervised by Prof Ian Roberts, focused on the evolution of the human language faculty and investigated potential parallels in cognitive computations in other domains of cognition, work for which I was awarded a Distinction.

The shift from biolinguistics to experimental neuroscience became the logical step and I then moved to Oxford in 2011 for an MSc in Neuroscience at Oriel College funded by the MRC, where I worked in the laboratories of Prof Molnar and Prof Monaco on uncovering the function of the dyslexia-susceptibility candidate genes KIAA0319 and KIAA0319L during cortical development, fpcusing on neuronal migration. Following the MSc, I undertook a Research Assistantship for a year at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics working both on the KIAA0319(L) project and on the neurogenetic basis of the neurodegenerative movement disorder Chorea-Acanthocytosis. In 2013 I started my DPhil at St John's College funded by the MRC.

Myself Neetu kushwah , I am working as a PhD student in defense institute of physiology and allied sciences (DIPAS),DRDO,Delhi. I am doing my research work in "Neurobiology of Depression" which is a common and highly heterogeneous psychiatric disorder. we create a model of depression by unpredictable chronic mild stress(UCMS) and give them short exposures of hypobaric hypoxia which we called as "inetermittent Hypoxia" which work as an antidepressant for treating depression.  I am very fortunate that i have been selected for this workshop. It will help me to identify various brain regions, their functioning and pattern of gene expression related with my study. Also i will be able to interact with the different people expertise in the field of neuroscience. So thanks to OIST and Allen Brain for giving me such a great opportunity.

Hi everyone, I am Andy from Neuroscience Research Australia. I did PhD in Neuroanatomy and am working for Prof George Paxinos now. I have been working on the descending fiber tracts to the spinal cord of the mouse and the neurotransmitter used by these pathways. I have been doing anterograde and retrograde tracer injections to the brain or spinal cord and immuofluorescence staining. Recently I have started trying to combine my histological work with MRI imaging to segment the mouse brain and producing the spinal cord atlas. At OIST, I am looking forward to hearing what you are doing and establishing collaboration with you. Best wishes  Andy

My research focuses on understanding learning and memory at the level of subcellular structural plasticity.  I am interested in the heterogeneity in structure and molecular composition among synapses, and in how the architecture of the synapse population creates and maintains memory circuits.  I also have a particular interest in the role of local protein synthesis in mediating the synaptic changes that underlie memory.

Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, I have relocated to San Francisco for a postdoctoral fellowship in the Lily Jan lab to study ion channel physiology. I am fascinated by all facets of ion channel research, from molecular biophysics all the way up to their roles in shaping behavior, in particular how their expression and function in different neurons of the brain dictates a broad diversity of firing behaviors. I'm very excited to improve my grasp of neuroanatomy at the course at OIST to help me develop new and better questions for this type of research. When I'm not in the lab, I love snowshoeing and hiking, hence the personal photo taken at the top of Norvan Falls, near Vancouver.
