OIST Ultimate Frisbee Club
Welcome to the official OIST Ultimate Frisbee club: TANCHA YANCHA!
We are a group of fun individuals that love to throw discs at each other, aiming for the perfect throw (or catch) we while ignoring the 99% of our "other" throws.
We try to make Tancha Yancha as bilingual as possible, main practice language is English, but we integrate all levels of English and Japanese.
If you want to spend some time doing a playful activity that happens to be healthy, then join us!
Where is the practice happening?
We will practice on Wednesdays evening at Nabee Beach, 15 minutes from OIST campus.
If it's raining, we may move to Akama dome.
When is the practice happening?
- Wednesdasy from 18:00 to 20:30
- Sunday
- from 17:00 to 19:00 during summer
- from 15:00 to 17:00 during winter
We have more people on Wednesday. We might have a sudden schedule change, so it's better to contact before you come to the practice for the first time.
When is the good timing for the first time?
The first Wednesday in the month is a 'beginner-friendly' session, and we recommend you to join it if you are new to ultimate. But you can come anytime you want.
How much does it cost?
We all pay 200-300 ¥ for practice, and your second time is free!!!
Wait, what is the ultimate frisbee at all?
It's a team sport played with a Frisbee disk. If you want to know more, here is a short video explanation, and, just to tease your imagination, here is how Ultimate frisbee is helping with the women communities in India!
What do I need to play?
Because we have lots of disks, you basically need nothing special to join our practice. Just come in your favorite sportswear! In outdoor practice, a pair of football spikes may help you grip the slippy ground, but it is not a must.
Can people outside OIST join practice?
You can :)
Contact?
Don't be afraid to contact either Lada or Julian for more info and love letters!
Cheers!
