Workshop: Facilitation as Leadership - Inclusive Event Facilitation

Date

2023年12月5日 (火) 15:00 16:30

Location

Lab 4, Floor E, Room 01

Description

If you plan and facilitate events for diverse audiences, you may encounter unexpected situations and challenges that are difficult to navigate at the moment. Facilitation is a vulnerable role because your words, choices, and actions are on public display in real time, and how you react in the moment affects the participants and the outcomes of the event. Effective facilitation centers on what participants are doing and experiencing, setting the tone of the event, and tending to the group dynamics in the room. Inclusive facilitation is a leadership skill that requires self-awareness, observational skills, agility, and intention. Join this workshop to sharpen your leadership facilitation skill set in preparation for your next event.

As a participant in this session, you will:

  • receive a high-level overview of designing inclusive events
  • be able to identify different facilitation choices and tools for future use
  • learn how to strengthen your ability to navigate challenging facilitation moments

Participants will reflect on prior experiences in facilitating events, discuss challenges, and consider how they might approach a role-play scenario. This workshop is intended for participants who have some prior facilitation experience. While we will discuss some facilitation tools, this session is not intended as an introduction to facilitation, as participants will be asked to draw upon past experiences. The workshop will be conducted in English by Kristin Macapagal, Program Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
