Abstract: Many phenomena in complex social systems, from the spread of online information to collective behavior, emerge from interactions that involve groups of individuals rather than simple pairs. Therefore, capturing these dynamics requires models that go beyond traditional pairwise network representations. In this talk, I will present my research on modeling real-world social systems using hypergraphs as a framework for representing group interactions. I will present algorithms and tools for hypergraph analysis, with a particular focus on social influence diffusion in online social media. Finally, I will highlight additional research directions that explore complex social systems from complementary perspectives, briefly touching on computational politics and agent-based models.
