Description

Decades of particle-physics research have led to the formation and confirmation of the elegant mathematical theory known as the standard model of particles and interactions. Despite its great success in describing fundamental laws of nature, the standard model leaves intriguing questions about the universe unanswered. In this talk, intended for scientists who are not necessarily physicists, I will explain what we know about particle physics and describe what it’s like to use some of the world’s largest and most complex instruments to search for new physics.
