Description

Skill and choice – implication from stroke rehabilitation

Prof. Rieko Osu, Waseda University

Supervised learning and reinforcement learning are known to be the two major learning frameworks implemented in the brain. The former works to acquire skilled movement based on error, while the latter works to acquire optimal behavior. These two interact with each other in the context of stroke hemiparesis rehabilitation where both skill learning, i.e., recovery of affected hand function, and optimal choice, i.e., whether to use an affected hand or an intact hand, have to work simultaneously. In this talk, I will introduce some of our experimental studies based on the above ideas.
