Description
Please check for updates, this post will be updated:
"Did you know that Spontaneous Beach Cleanings are supported island wide? Beach trash can be left in a roadside location by the beach where local village office trucks can collect it, and the local town hall can be informed after the fact (the resource centre can help with language support if required).
Tancha beach is in a really sad state after the stormy seas washing up lots of trash. There are currently lumps of tar mixed in with the flotsam from oil spills. We would like to make OISTers aware that they can always pick up beach trash they find for collection wherever they are on island, no pre-organized events needed, especially in our neighboring community of Tancha, where beach trash can be left at the car park at the bottom of the OIST hill. Onna Village office provides beach cleaning bags for free, but otherwise normal trash bags can be used if no other bags are available. And if no bags are handy, it's still very helpful to get the large floats that don't need/fit in bags off the beach (especially the polystyrene ones)."
The information, photo, and the text is provided by OIST Alumni Dr. Leilee Chojnacki who is visiting OIST now. The text was slightly edited and photo was cropped.

DO NOT FORGET: water, gardening gloves, and protection from the sun.
There is some limited amount beach cleaning bags in the student lounge room!
If you can, please visit the Onna Village Office, second floor, to take more.
You need look for the desk with all the Sunna-chan stuff (tourism and planning section I think) and ask for bags. They ask you to sign a form of how many bags you take, and how they will be used, but at least when I used to collect them there was no need for any event to be scheduled for their use. You can tell them you will inform them about collections through resource centre afterwards and they know the process
It helps it you have a translator app on your phone.
