Title:

Modelling protein search on human DNA

Abstract:

To turn on a gene,  a protein has bind to a specific site on DNA.  However, as DNA is long, this binding site is just one out of hundreds of million of others. How can a few proteins find the correct site in a reasonable amount of time? In this talk, I will lay out the protein-search problem in cells, formulate a model, and compare some of the model’s outcomes to data for active genes.
