Seminar on: "Vacuum Insulation Tandem Accelerator"
Speaker: Dr. Alexander Ivanov, Deputy Director, Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Novosibirsk, Russia
Abstract: The vacuum-insulated tandem accelerator (VITA) is developed in the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Novosibirsk, Russia for application to boron capture therapy of malignant tumors. In VITA, the required neutron flux is produced by irradiation of the Li target by 2-2.5 MeV proton beam. Recent results of the proton beam formation studies in VITA are presented and discussed. The accelerator is now being upgraded to increase the beam current to a level which is necessary to start the medical trials.
