Colloquium: "Maxwell's equations, Yang-Mills equations and differential forms" by Mr. Ryusei Maeda

Date

Friday, February 14, 2020 - 10:00 to 12:00

Location

B714b

Description

Speaker: Mr. Ryusei Maeda is a 3rd year undergratuate student at University of Tokyo and is currently visiting OIST as a research intern.

Abstract: The aim of this presentation is to rewrite the Maxwell equations and the Yang-Mills equations in terms of differential forms. Differential forms are useful tools in physics. We define differential forms with help of concepts developed last week and introduce some operations such as exterior derivatives and Hodge star operators. We also introduce the Lie groups and Lie algebras briefly. These concepts are necessary in order to describe “colors” (internal degrees of freedom) in physics.
