Science Day Gunma 2026 – Exploring the World of Science through Quantum
Last year, 2025 marked the 100th anniversary of the development of quantum mechanics and was designated the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology by the United Nations. To celebrate this milestone, Gunma University and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) co-hosted Science Day Gunma 2025, an outreach event for high school students in Gunma Prefecture.
Following the success of last year’s event, which attracted strong interest and many participants, the two institutions are continuing their collaboration this year by co-hosting Science Day Gunma 2026.
Event Overview
Introduction
Learn the basics of quantum mechanics together with researchers from Gunma University, OIST, and QST, and explore quantum computers, quantum sensors, batteries of the future, and advanced medical technologies.
Highlight 1: Introduction to Quantum Mechanics
Learn about quantum mechanics, one of today’s most exciting fields of science, explained in a way that is easy for high school students to understand.
Highlight 2: Discover the Latest Scientific Research
Researchers from Gunma University, OIST, and QST will introduce cutting-edge scientific research. Topics include quantum computers, quantum sensors, batteries of the future, advanced medical technologies, and more.
Highlight 3: Hands-on Science Mini Exhibition
Explore quantum computing, quantum sensors, experimental equipment, and more at a mini exhibition where you can see the technology up close and try some of it yourself.
Highlight 4: Study & Global Career Consultation
Talk with researchers and students from Gunma University and OIST about your future studies and career options. Ask them about their own career paths and what led them to pursue research.
