Title:
Adaptive Signals in the Evolution of Vertebrate Eyes
Abstract:
The eyes of vertebrates feature an enormous diversity of forms and functions. Much of this diversity has been attributed to the role of adaptive evolution in response to the light environment of the animal, yet detailed phylogenetic studies are scarce. In this talk I will introduce the vertebrate eye as a classic example of many-to-one mapping and test hypotheses of adaptive evolution in geckos, aquatic mammals, and early tetrapods.
