Description

Speaker: Dr Yong Yang, Senior research fellow, Institute of Photonics, Aston University, UK

Talk title:  Introduction of surface nanoscale axial photonics (SNAP)

Abstract:  By introducing a deformation along the surface of an optical fiber, whispering gallery mode cavities circulating around the fiber will be totally changed. The modulated modes undergo a slow axial propagation , which can be described by the one-dimensional Schrodinger equation. A well-controlled small nanoscale variation to the fiber offers precise fabrication of mode structures. In this seminar, I will give a brief introduction to such device, and its applications to different research areas such as quantum simulation, sensing and optical delay line.
