ICIIBMS 2025 - 10th International Conference on Intelligent Informatics and BioMedical Sciences
ICIIBMS is the joint effort of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST), the University of the Ryukyus, and the National Institute of Technology, Okinawa College in order to create opportunities for scholars, technology, industry leaders, scientists, and graduate students to present their original research (full papers, short papers, and poster presentations) on various topics. Including Signal Processing, Information Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, Biomedical, Medical Imaging, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, Natural Sciences, and related fields, and not only get credit from their Institutions and impact on technology development. ICIIBMS is a conference recognized, sponsored, and indexed by IEEE and other influential index agencies, such as Engineering Village and Scopus.

DEI lunchtime discussion: Exploring trust and psychological safety at work
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team invites you to join an informal lunchtime discussion exploring trust and psychological safety in the workplace. Participants will reflect on how they trust others, learn the difference between trust and psychological safety, identify behaviors that cultivate trust, and discuss in small groups. Participants are welcome to eat their lunch during the session. Language: English. Wednesday, November 12 from 12pm-1pm in Center Building, Level C, Room 210 (C210).

DISCOVER THE LEAN STARTUP METHODOLOGY Learn to identify commercial opportunities that come from your academic research. Apply the Lean Startup methodology to real OIST technologies, guided by instructors from the NSF I-Corps™ network. Teams (3–4 people) will conduct interviews, validate their ideas, and explore real-world commercialization.

In addition to the October 9 school fair that will focus on local schools in Okinawa, we are planning to host two virtual school fairs this October to introduce additional educational options. All interested families are welcome to join, regardless of the age of your children. (Children are welcome to attend as well!)
The two sessions have been organized based on the type of school experience provided: international boarding schools in Japan and online learning programs (full-time and subject-based options). All of these options use an English-based curriculum and are either in Japan or can accommodate students based in Japan. We welcome you to attend either or both sessions.

An information session on recent updates to procurement operations and rules will be held on Wednesday, October 22, from 11:00 to 11:50 , in a hybrid format (Center Building B250 or Zoom). The session will include a Q&A segment. Simultaneous English interpretation will be available, and presentation materials (and possibly a recording) will be uploaded online afterward for those unable to attend.

The integration of AI into academic writing presents both opportunities and challenges for sustaining authorial voice. While AI tools can aid in grammar correction, stylistic enhancement, and idea generation, they risk diluting personal voice through homogenized phrasing and over-standardization. In collaboration with leading venture capital firms, OIST Innovation offers startups and entrepreneurial researchers or students the opportunity to connect directly with venture capitalists for one-on-one mentoring and discussion. Each round begins with an open seminar-style introduction, where participants can learn about the VC firm's investment focus and characteristics. This is followed by private, closed-door mentoring sessions between startups/researchers/students and the VC representatives.
The featured VC for this round is ON&BOARD .
Registration is required. If the number of applicants exceeds the available slots, OIST Innovation will select participants based on the information provided in the registration form and the strategic fit with the VC.
AI-Based Entrepreneurial Projects at OIST
As part of Researcher Appreciation Month, join us for a special event on AI-based entrepreneurial projects. Speakers include Dr. Shunichi Kasahara (Sony & OIST) on Cybernetic Humanity, Andrew Bruhacs (OIST) on his AI tool connecting industry with researchers, and Melika Sadeghi Tabrizi (POC project) on an Edge AI system detecting invasive frog species. The session will showcase how AI is being applied across fields from human–computer integration to biodiversity protection.

The PCD Team will host the OIST Career Fair 2025 on October 6th and 7th, 2025. This will offer OIST students a unique opportunity to engage directly with companies across Japan and explore diverse career paths beyond academia.

This is followed by private, closed-door mentoring sessions between startups/researchers/students and the VC representatives.
The featured VC for this round is UTokyo IPC .
Since UTokyo IPC focuses on supporting pre-founders and researchers, this time we are prioritizing researchers who have not yet established a company for the mentoring sessions.
