Title : Artificial Intelligence and Brain Science
Abstract : The studies of artificial intelligence and brain science have had a winding relationship of crossover and divergence. Artificial intelligence should be able to learn from the superb realization of intelligence by the brain, but what and how much it can learn is a matter of debate. Brain science can learn from the knowledge of what works and what is the problem in building intelligent systems, and can also utilize artificial intelligence for the analysis of big data.
In this talk, I will first present a brief historical overview and then introduce our own experience of identifying important computational issues in robotic implementation of reinforcement learning and turning them into the subjects of neuroscience research, such as the learning of action values and appraisal of delayed reward. I will finally address what further insights artificial intelligence might gain from the architecture and functioning of the brain.
