Plant Engineering Biology: Engineering green organisms for a sustainable future

Abstract

Engineering biology (or synthetic biology) is a fast-growing interdisciplinary field at the interface of biology and engineering, with much-anticipated potential to drive the next industrial revolution through biomanufacturing. While plants and other green (photosynthetic) organisms are the go-to bio-factories for our food, drugs, and materials, synthetic biological bioproduction has left them largely untapped until recently. We are now seeing a rapid increase in global interest and progress in plant engineering biology. This 2 and 1/2-day symposium will feature leading researchers from Japan and the rest of the world, with the aim of exploring the global plant engineering biology landscape and imagine the most exciting future directions in the growing field. 

Program

The symposium will feature five oral presentation sessions:

  1. Plant biomanufacturing
  2. Molecular tools development
  3. Genome engineering
  4. Resilience engineering
  5. Future scoping

We welcome talks from both senior and early career researchers. There will be poster presentation, as well as networking dinner and excursion.

Registration

To keep this workshop small enough to encourage networking and interactions, the maximum number of participants will be set at 100.

The registration fee is 30,000 JPY, and it includes the symposium access, food and drink served during the meeting, and excursion. A payment link will be sent to the accepted applicants.

Open positions will be filled on the first-come, first-served basis.
